Today Saturday 18th June 2016 Nature Vibezzz ran the first of 2 Knight’s Hill Wood Clean Up days. The day was run in combination with Crown Lane Dad’s group who turned out in force to help on the day.
Nature Vibezzz and Crown Lane Dad’s was joined by some very enthusiastic volunteers from local area. Many stating they will return on the second Capital clean up day on Monday 20th June 2016.
Dr Iain Boulton, Environmental Compliance Officer, Lambeth Parks and Open Spaces also came and helped on the day, including giving advice regarding which plants to clear.
On the day volunteers cleared two large areas, one close to woodland entrance in order to make the wood more inviting for people to use. The other one in the woodland to create a glade, which will be planted with woodland wildflowers on Nature Vibezzz second Capital clean up day. Volunteers pruned back Holy trees and Elder trees to open up pathways and increase light in the wood which will encourage wildflowers and other native plants to grow.
Refreshments was provided for volunteers and the event finished over an 1 hour later than time tabled due to the fantastic support of all the volunteers who helped on the day.
This event was part of Capital Clean-up which is a partnership campaign led by the Mayor of London to help Londoners work together to spruce up their city. It is supported by McDonald’s and is part of the Mayor’s wider Team London volunteering programme.
Nature Vibezzz would like to thank all the volunteers who turned up on the day for the great work they did and making such a great start in turning this underused woodland in to a welcoming and beautiful green space for all to use.
